What do you think?
Should we regulate genetic testing further or will this stifle
innovation and confine us to a declining physician-controlled
healthcare system? Please send your comments to Dillan Yogendra

Yet, at the same time, it seems
important that we exercise due
caution and put in place some
safeguards now, as none of us
can know what the ‘brave new
world’ of personalised healthcare will look like in the future.
If we lay the foundations correctly now, we can perhaps
prevent problems further
down the line.
Personalised medicine is at a crossroads. Should we
regulate genetic testing further,
for the safety of patients – and
consumers? Or would doing this
restrict the citizen’s rights to
information, to make intelligent
choices for their own health and
stymie the current trend towards patient empowerment?
Our initial inquiry reveals that
it might be unwise to do so
without considering the implications – upon what has been
coined our ‘cognitive liberty’,
first, and second, upon the model
of healthcare we work within.
